IP CAREER COACH
The Intergenerational Program Career Coach was one of the first pilot projects of UG. In October 2008, we visited over a dozen school classes. The learning: A large majority of students would appreciate if senior experienced citizens would coach them.
In November 2008, we tested the waters with several coaching sessions in Nuremberg and in Munich. In each session about four senior citizens visited a school and worked with about eight students, specifically to improve their job application prospects. These pilots showed areas for improvement which we implemented prior to rolling out the full-fledged program.
In 2009, we organized the full-fledged program three times. Each program comprised seven sessions which were organized and monitored by our members and supported by school faculty or official social workers.
- Preparatory session: Briefing of senior coaches (w/o students)
- Coaching session: Get to know each other, discuss aspired jobs
- Coaching session: Screening of job opportunities, fit assessment
- Coaching session: Development of cover letter
- Coaching session: Development of curriculum vitae
- Coaching session: Get practice in mock interviews
- Wrap-up session: Handover certificates, debrief learnings
